Frequently asked questions
How do I use the Margin & Markup calculator?
Enter any two of cost, selling price, profit, margin or markup. The rest are worked out as you type and marked Calculated. If your region has a sales tax or GST, the selling price is the price including tax, and the result shows how much of it is tax.
Why doesn't my discount match adding the percentages together?
An extra discount applies to the price that is already reduced, so 30% then 10% comes to 37% off, not 40%. The Discount calculator shows this in a note under the result.
How do I add or remove GST or another tax?
Open GST (or Tax in some regions), choose Add or Remove, then pick a rate or enter your own. In India, turn on Inter-state supply to see IGST instead of CGST plus SGST.
How do I save a calculation?
Tap Save at the bottom of any calculator. It appears in History, newest first and grouped by day. The most recent ones also show on the Calculators screen under Recent.
How do I find, reopen or delete a saved calculation?
- Use the search box in History, or the chips under it to show one calculator's results.
- Tap a row to reopen it and keep working.
- Swipe a row to delete it, or tap Edit to pick several. A message with Undo appears for a few seconds afterwards.
How do I change the region, currency or default tax rate?
Open Settings. Choose your region (India, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates or Japan) to set its currency, number format and tax. You can also change the default tax rate, units and decimal places there. The region chip at the top of the Calculators screen changes region too.
A tax rate or number looks wrong for my region.
Rates are presets and can change. Check the rate in Settings, or enter your own rate in the calculator. If a preset is out of date, please tell me using the contact above.
Are my calculations backed up or synced to other devices?
No. Saved calculations and settings stay on the device they were made on. They are not uploaded anywhere, so deleting the app deletes them, and they do not move to a new phone unless you restore the whole device from a backup.
Why does the app show ads, and can I change what I see?
MarginMath is free and paid for by ads from Google AdMob. In Settings › Privacy options you can review your consent, and in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking you can allow or refuse tracking. Refusing tracking does not remove ads, but they will not be personalised. See the privacy policy.
The app closes, freezes or shows something wrong.
Update to the latest version from the App Store, then restart the app. If it still happens, email me with your iPhone or iPad model, the iOS version, and what you were doing. A screenshot helps.
